A good friend told me to keep in mind that you are investing in a system not just a camera. You will eventually be purchasing speed lights, more lenses, battery grips, etc… What I started with was a Canon Rebel kit from Costco. That body has a cropped sensor. I never learned about cropped sensors till later. 

Recently I have been using different tools for different jobs. I started using medium format. In the past I have used Canon and Nikon bodies, Yachica, Fuji, and Pentax. I think it really comes down to what you need to get the image you want
